5K and 1K Run/Walk
Date: April 28, 2012
We would like to invite everyone to come out and join in the fun during the Second Annual Grey Bruce Spring Fun Run, a joint fundraising project that supports two local organizations that assist people with intellectual disabilities. Grey Bruce Special Hockey gives its 20 players who have intellectual disabilities a chance to form lasting friendships with their peers and play hockey on a team called The Falcons. Community Living Walkerton and District is a non-profit association that supports families and individuals with an intellectual disability; public education and awareness to inform the community of the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities is an important part of this association's ongoing efforts.
Thanks to everyone who turned out for lasts years event, making it a great success. We will be holding our second annual 5 K run this spring in Walkerton, on April 28, 2012, with the start and finish line at the Walkerton Agriculture Society Building #2, 210 Durham St. West, Walkerton.
This run is being organized by:
Grey Bruce Special Hockey - www.greybrucefalcons.com
Grey Bruce Special Hockey was created to give developmentally challenged athletes an opportunity to play hockey regardless of gender, age or ability. We endeavor to give our players a sense of community involvement, which in the past has been limited to observing and not participating. The Falcons, give athletes who have an intellectual disability a chance to form a long lasting friendship with their peers, and permits them to learn about sportsmanship and fair play. The players are able to develop at their own pace with the help of a group of dedicated volunteers who emphasize FUN while learning. The team is raising funds to travel to the year end international tournament.
Community Living Walkerton & District - www.clwalkerton.org
Community Living Walkerton & District, Continuing Education Committee encourages and supports colleagues as they further their knowledge and skills required to support people with developmental disabilities to participate in all aspects of life in their communities. The goal of Community Living Walkerton and District is to ensure that "all persons live in a state of dignity, share in all aspects of community living and have the opportunity to participate effectively".
We believe that by co-hosting this event, full citizenry will be promoted and those supported by both organizations will benefit. Plan to join us in the spring, and join the fun in beautiful Walkerton
